Berendina Enables Prospective Families to begin Income Generation Activities

BDS has initiated a project to provide livelihood assistance to selected families with the potential to start income-generating projects. These identified families lack sufficient income sources to engage in income-generating activities on their own. The selected families are from the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat Division’s remove areas of Urumeewala, Kandawa, Narangala, Udapotha, and Neluwakkana Grama Niladhari Divisions.

On August 12, 2022, 1000 tea plants were distributed to 26 selected families as part of this initiative to begin tea cultivation. They were also given fertilizer and a payment of Rs. 10,000 each to encourage land preparation. These families participated in a special technical training session on successful tea cultivation at home.

Ms. Ramya Jayasundara, Divisional Secretary of the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat Division, as well as Chandana Kumara Jayalath, District Community Development Coordinator, Berendina Development Services, were present and distributed tea plants to the selected families at Divisional Secretariat Office, Bulathkohupitiya.
