Berendina’s New Initiative Provides Financial Assistance to Nuwara Eliya Plantations and Rural Communities
200 families in Nuwara Eliya District recently received financial assistance under the
recently launched “Berendina Minisath Sarana or Berendinavin Manithabimana Uthavi”
initiative. Berendina launched this new initiative to help these vulnerable communities cope
with the economic crisis and to provide financial assistance. The event was held on August
1, 2022, at the Nuwara Eliaya Divisional Secretariat’s Wonder Hall. The selected families
are from Dessford, Palmerston, Somerset, Greatwestern estates and Mihinthupura,
Meepilimana, Shanthipura, Gorandiella and Seethaeliya Grama Niladhari divisions. Under
the new initiative, selected families will receive a Rs. 5000 financial grant three times every
two months.
Mr. Vidura Sampath, Divisional Secretary of Nuwara Eliya Division, was the Chief Guest of
the event, while Special Invitees included Chief inspector of the Police Head Quarters Mr.
H.A. Pramala, Mr. Rangana Chandrasri, Deputy Director of Agriculture Department, Mr. B.
Ranaweera, Manager, Great Western Estate, Mr. K. Sujeev Kanna, Deputy Manager,
Somerset Estate, Mr. B. M. Raheem, Deputy Manager, Berendina Development Services
(BDS) and Mr. N. M. C. D. Nawarathna, Area Manager, Berendina Micro Investments
Company Limited (BMIC).
