Berendina
organized ToT workshop for Community Development Coordinators
Berendina
Development Services (BDS) recently organized a transformative Training of
Trainers workshop for its dedicated Community Development Coordinators. This
three-day residential program, held from 18 to 20 November 2023 at the Concord
Grand Hotel in Dehiwela, was exclusively focused on the MenCare Program. The
primary goal of this workshop was to augment the knowledge and skills of BDS
staff, empowering them to effectively lead and conduct the MenCare Program
within their respective operational areas.
At
the heart of BDS’ mission is a commitment to Gender Equality, and the MenCare
Program plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. Recognizing the significance of
involving men and boys in the pursuit of gender equality, Berendina believes
that fostering active, equitable, and nonviolent engagement among men is
instrumental in successfully executing initiatives related to social causes.
The
MenCare Program is meticulously crafted to cater to men’s groups, with a
specific emphasis on fathers. As part of the organization’s holistic approach,
the program aspires to encourage men’s active participation as partners,
fathers, and caregivers. During the three-day training, families are immersed
in a comprehensive curriculum that covers various facets of day-to-day life,
fostering an environment where both partners are involved and share family
responsibilities equally.
Commencing
in the year 2023, BDS has embarked on the implementation of the MenCare Program
in select areas within its operational districts. The organization envisions an
expansion of the program’s coverage to encompass all operational areas by the
year 2024. This strategic initiative not only reflects BDS’ commitment to
gender equality but also underscores its proactive efforts in creating positive
and lasting impacts on families and communities.
