Vanakkam Jaffna! Berendina Opens its First Ever Branch in Jaffna Peninsula

Berendina Micro Investments Company Limited (BMIC) ceremonially opened its first ever branch in Jaffna Peninsula on the auspicious day of 20 January 2023. Situated at the primelocation in Chunnakam, this is the 32nd branch of BMIC’s branch network. Operations of Chunnakam branch officially commenced in December 2022, creating awareness among the community about Berendina’s services. With this new branch in Jaffna District, BMIC has expanded its services to 12 districts of the island, including Ampara, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Batticaloa, Kandy, Kegalle, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and Vavuniya Districts, serving well over 70,000 clients.

The Chief Guest of the Opening Ceremony was Ms. Kumudini Saravanamuttu, Director BMIC and the Special Guest was Ms. Malarvani, Additional Divisional Secretary, Uduvil DS Division. Mr. Charith Fernando, Director & Deputy Managing Director – BMIC and Mr. Sarath Chandra Fernando, Director – BMIC graced the event as the Guests of Honour. The special invitees include Managers of commercial banks and finance companies in Chunnakam, Grama Niladari Officers as well as members of Women Rural Development Society. The branch also disbursed its first micro credit loans to 9 clients.

With this new BMIC branch opening in Jaffna District ushers the benefits for the Northern peninsula community including micro loans, enterprise development services, “Jaya Surekum” Savings facility, “Suwa Sahana” financial assistance during medical emergency or death, bright students’ scholarships for the children of clients as well as relief support during natural calamities.
