Disaster Relief Response

In response to Cyclone Ditwah and the resulting floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, the Berendina Group mobilized its resources to support communities severely affected by this devastating disaster. Our immediate focus was on providing timely humanitarian assistance to families whose lives, homes, and livelihoods were disrupted by the cyclone.
As part of our emergency relief efforts, we distributed dry food packs containing essential staples to ensure food security for displaced and affected families. These packs were designed to meet basic nutritional needs during the critical early stages of recovery. In addition, sanitary items and hygiene packs were provided, with special attention given to the needs of women, children, and the elderly, to help maintain dignity, health, and hygiene in temporary shelters and affected households.
Recognizing the challenges faced by communities cut off due to flooding, Berendina also facilitated transport support, including the provision of boats, to assist with evacuation, access to relief services, and the safe movement of people and essential supplies in inaccessible areas.
These relief initiatives were carried out in collaboration with local authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations to ensure that assistance reached the most vulnerable populations efficiently and responsibly. Through these efforts, the Berendina Group reaffirmed its commitment to standing with communities in times of crisis and supporting their journey towards recovery and resilience.

Covid - 19 Pandemic

As an organization, in 2020 we leveraged our resources towards distributing the necessary financial aid and emergency support to hard hit areas of the society whose lives and livelihoods have been threatened by the pandemic, including supporting the authorities and health sector by distributing essential medical equipment and other items required.

In 2021, our focus was directed towards the equipping Intermediate Care Centers with required necessary medical equipment such as oxygen therapy equipment which includes oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders and connectors, Pulse Oximeters, Multipara monitors, PPE etc. and other items required for the critical functioning of the Intermediate Care Centers.

Packs of dry rations and other items were distributed to the care homes and quarantined families. Dry rations contained essential staples such as rice, milk powder and sugar, etc, including sanitary products, medicine and supplementary products such as Panadol, Isocal and Diabetasol. The objective of the relief assistance was to maintain acceptable levels of nutrition and hygiene conditions of most vulnerable families.

As part of our Bright Student Scholarship program, we granted students with an additional allowance to purchase data packages in order to ensure continuation of their education through online platforms during the time of school closure due to the pandemic.
